Your earnings absolutely don't dictate how good of a writer you are.

I appreciate the courage it must have taken to quit your job. Doing what you don't enjoy will only make you unhappy, so this decision despite being hard now will surely pay off in the long run.

Keep writing and believe in yourself. As I said earlier don't let your earnings dictate how good of a writer you are.
