Wow! What a read this was! I love the aphorisms especially, "The fear of everything is the fear of nothing".
I also like the conundrum, "Death does not exist for the living, yet those who are dead are no longer existing themselves."
It's crazy when you think about it. Our time of inexistence is astronomically larger than our period of existence. We didn't exist before we were born and we won't exist after we die.
Isn't living nothing but a short break from "not existing". It's funny isn't it, how fragile and short our lives.
Coming to death, it isn't death we fear but rather the process of dying, the pain involved. We all seek a painless death. It's not the fear of death but rather the fear of the pain of death.
Wisdom is the only thing worth accruing in this short life. It's insights that are worth finding and holding on to.
No wonder a brush with death changes most people. You suddenly realize the closeness and realness of death, that death is the inevitable end. It can never be otherwise.
Accepting death can actually give us freedom. We are truly free to do whatever we wish to, whatever we find meaningful to.
When you don't fear death, you essentially fear nothing in life.
Thanks for sharing this Donald! It was a truly excellent read. Looking forward to seeing more from you
