Wow! I can relate so so so much with this. When the lockdown started and I was locked up at home, I started working out at home.
At home, I had to rely on exercises like weighted chinups, archer pushups, pistol squats and mostly unilateral exercises.
I also was pretty inconsistent and this led to better results!
This made me realize how badly I banged myself up in the gym. Maxing out on the big lifts all the time led to me becoming a neurotic mess.
I do the big three only because I like them. But you don't have to do them.
Machine exercises like Hack squats, Hammer press etc. are as effective as back squats and bench press.
Also the big three especially squats and deadlifts would bang the shit out of me. I continuously chased PRs and got a 200 kg deadlift at 73 kgs bodyweight but as I said, they would wreck me mentally.
I can also relate with the obsession part. I am thankful to the quarantine for making me get rid of the obsession.
Fitness is now only a part of life as opposed to life itself like earlier.
And thanks for the article idea, I plan on writing a similar one outlining the things I would do differently.
