The new system is well-intentioned and the formula is also well-thought-out - but the major blunder seems to be the sheer under-reliance on Reading Time.
Reading Time is the one miraculous metric which almost automatically weeds out shallow clickbait stuff and rewards higher-quality writing. This in combination with the other engagement factors would have formed an incredible base for earnings calculation.
This plus the new read ratio which is ironically higher for shorter listicle-style content than for deep, nuanced stuff.
If the read ratio can be changed or reliance on it reduced + reliance on reading time increased, the new algo will work wonderfully
