Lovely article Niharika! When you are addicted while knowing it's bad for you, you tend to become what is called in psychology as "cognitively dissonant".
This is why we tend to justify it and look and embrace arguments that "reduce" the dissonance. This is the easier way to reduce cognitive dissonance.
The harder but much more rewarding one is to face up to the addiction and give it up as you later did.
I love how honest this article is. This should help a few people I know that are heavily addicted to smoking
