I think this comes down to realizing that when you're clearly gifted by forces outside your control in one or more aspects, it's a demand for gratefulness and humility.

The usual Ego and arrogance comes from folks who believe their innate specialness gave them those gifts.

I have a (much)-higher-than-normal-IQ (I don't say this to brag but only as a matter of fact) and I was arrogant about it for a long long time.

But when I realized "I" didn't choose my parents, the odds of by-birth intelligence, or any other thing - the arrogance melted and gratefulness came in.

It's like being given a gift - the gifter is Great, not who he chooses to give the gift to. In this case, God is the gifter.
