I think attraction is status signalling. Like "I can get that chick. Can you?", "I know you want her but she's mine" - this sorta thing.

But among guys there's a joke - the hottest girl you ever get won't be the one you plan a life with - because personality and character come into the picture.

When you say "Love", it's more - you find the person attractive but you also find their personality, character, and soul attractive.
