I don't agree with this. With this framework, you can extrapolate pretty much anything. You can say that investing money itself is bad because some poor peasant somewhere is breaking his back to pay back the whopping compound interest which you are indirectly earnings through investing.

Similarly, clothes, paints, etc. are all bad cuz most of their factories employ children in hazardous working conditions.

Coming to owning a tobacco company, they aren't "forcing" anyone to buy. You aren't contributing to any misery, more like the smokers are building their own misery.

If you truly define contributing to misery this way, the only solution would be retreating to a forest and living as a recluse
