For all the excellent points you've made, the "oppressing women tradition" part alone seems a bit unwarranted and extreme.
Just because "some" marriages have had abusive/alcoholic/sexually_violent/oppressive husbands doesn't mean it applies to all.
More so, this has been the case for women too - the Heard/Depp case being the prime example.
With divorce laws being so wife-friendly and anti-husband, it's women I'd argue taking more advantage and exerting more control over marriages this today.
