An excellent read! It got me all pumped up to go smash a workout. David Goggins is addicted to discomfort just like the rest of us are addicted to comfort.
Heck! I use this kind of a mindset in my compound lifts. I once remember a set of squats where I had to get 8 reps and my 6th one was an extremely slow grinder. I took a deep pause, went in for the 7th one which was even harder and I was trembling like a leaf under the strain of the effort.
Now I take a few breaths, the weight is pressing on, my core and back are on fire.
I am absolutely gassed. After 3 or 4 breaths and a long deep breath, I plunge in.
Probably the hardest rep of my life but holy shit I got it.
Lifting teaches you just how much your capability is purely mental.
