Absolutely true. On paper all these sound lucrative, in fact too lucrative to be true.

Save $100 a week and you will have a million when you retire yada yada all sound good but don't translate well to reality.

As you put it beautifully, life isn't as straightforwards.

I believe being financially educated and smart about your money without overly obsessing over it is enough.
